DOUBT, A PARABLE
By John Patrick Shanley
“Doubt is as strong a bond as certainty.”
At the Durango Arts Center, February 2019
Comments from audience members:
“Just saw Merely Players Doubt, A Parable at the Durango Arts Center. DO NOT MISS THIS! Get there early to marvel at the magic Charles Ford created with the beautiful set. You would never believe those brick walls and stone arches weren’t real! Jason Lythgoe was that kind of believable as Father Flynn. Can’t say enough about Maureen May as Sister Aloysius, and the powerful cast is admirably completed with Rebecca Sloan and Sharina Ramsey. Mona Wood-Patterson, you’ve done it again. With Merely Players finding it’s home at the Durango Arts Center, Durango has lots in store.” L.F.
“Merely Players–you keep topping yourselves, which is hard to imagine as possible! Your Doubt is fantastic. I was fully absorbed into the world you created with your excellent ensemble cast and crew, costumes, and Charles, that set!!!! The marble was gleaming! The bricks oozed with authenticity!! We just loved the show, how nuanced it was, how you kept us always slightly off-balance… just when we thought one perspective on what was unfolding was the ‘right’ one, there was a new turn, twist, and we were once again swimming in… ‘doubt’! Thank you for such a wonderful evening of theatre, and community inquiry into uncertainty! I am so grateful to this whole company for all you bring to enliven and enrich our world!” J.C.
“The story is a powerful one that leaves you questioning your own certainty of life’s quarrels. It’s impeccably acted, beautifully directed and as always the overall feel of the set, costumes and tech leaves the audience mesmerized.”- G.G.
