“If you want something, keep your hands on it.”
For ten hard-luck Texans, a new lease on life is so close they can touch it. Under a scorching sun for days on end, armed with nothing but hope, humor, and ambition, they’ll fight to keep at least one hand on a brand-new truck in order to win the American dream. With a toe-tapping score that fuses country, rock, and blues, this exhilarating musical explores the resilience of the spirit, the power of determination, and the triumph of the human will. With a book by Doug Wright and music by Trey Anastasio & Amanda Green, this unconventional musical is inspired by the true events of the acclaimed documentary of the same name and is fun for the whole family.

Content Advisory: The actors play real people, with all of their human messiness. As they talk throughout the hours of the competition, discussions include suicide, PTSD, war, immigration, economic woes, religion, and drug use. They sometimes use strong language, including both sexist and racist remarks. They offend each other, disagree, support one another, and share hope. Their hands are on the truck, and their dreams are on the line.
Merely Underground is a small space, and we want to ensure that as many people can see our play as possible. To maximize audience capacity, we have built risers and have two seating options. All seats have a great view of the stage.
Standard Banquet Chair. Sorry, no banquet included.
Beach chair. Front row and nice & low. You won’t miss a thing! Perfect for families or for pretending that you are on the beach.
Comfortable padded stool with high back. If you are worried about someone’s head blocking you, this is a great choice. We appreciate you selecting these if you are able, so that people who are unable to get on a stool can have the chairs.

Support MERELY PLAYERS
We humbly ask that you consider contributing to Merely Players, a 501(c) (3) organization.
As is true in theatres across the nation, ticket prices account for only about 50% of our production costs. The rest of our expenses must be met through private donations and grants.
Live theatre is a dynamic, expensive venture, and our costs keep rising. Donations are used to meet venue expenses, pay royalties, hire actors and other personnel, pay for technical elements such as scenery, costumes, and lighting, and to publicize our shows. The money we raise directly affects the quality of our productions.
Theatre adds vitality and variety to a community, and your tax-deductible donation helps to ensure that we can continue to thrive.
